Ace of Skies is a completely free-to-play single-player action game released on April 21, 2010. The game features dogfighting, with a top down perspective, and is set during the World Wars.
Controls
- Left/Right - Steer (Tap twice and hold for a stall turn)
- Space - Shoot (Shooting too much in succession causes overheating and disables shooting for a couple of seconds)
- Numbers 1-7 - Purchase Upgrade (Classic Mode only)
Classic Mode
Classic Mode features 20 waves of German aeroplanes (and a UFO), working in a similar system to the game Stellar Shard.
Arcade Mode
After completing the game in Classic Mode, you can access Arcade Mode, in which you gain random upgrades when you destroy enemies (you cannot select your own upgrades), and the levels are infinite.
Waves
Transition to the next wave can be seen from the surge of enemy planes around the perimeter of the radar, as well as a one-line comment from the bottom of the screen.

Planes
Upgrades
Each enemy plane destroyed gives you an upgrade point, which can be used for the following:
- Increase Speed - Costs 1 upgrade point.
- Increase Rate of Fire - Costs 2 upgrade points
- Increase Manoeuvrability - Costs 3 upgrade points
- Increase Armour - Costs 4 upgrade points.
- Extra Life - Costs 5 upgrade points. You can have up to six lives.
- Purchase Wingman - Costs 6 upgrade points. Wingmen can shoot down enemy aeroplanes, which still count towards upgrade points, though only half the usual score is gained from such kills. They can be destroyed. You can have up to 6 wingmen at one time.
- Score Multiplier - Costs 7 upgrade points. Increases score to 2x, then 3x, etc. Does not increase the number of upgrade points per kill.
Powerups
Powerups are randomly dropped by defeated enemies. Powerups have a limited use. The amount available left is shown by an orange bar at the bottom-right of the screen. The player can only have one powerup at a time, so avoid being too close to an enemy when shooting it if you want to keep your current powerup.
